I say this, too, not only because I am very conscious of the sensitivities, fears and anxieties that these negotiations highlight – trade is a very political subject indeed – but because it also highlights the important role of parliamentarians: Members of this Parliament, but not just this Parliament, members of all national parliaments are involved as well.
Dies sage ich nicht nur, weil mir die Sensibilitäten, Ängste und Befürchtungen, die diese Verhandlungen mit sich bringen, äußerst bewusst sind – Handel ist wirklich ein sehr politisches Thema –, sondern weil damit auch die wichtige Rolle der Abgeordneten betont wird: Daran sind auch Parlamentsabgeordnete nicht nur dieses Parlaments, sondern aller Länderparlamente beteiligt.
