Firms are influenced by a wide range of location factors. In general, these fall into three groups : 1) market-related factors (access, general economic climate, etc.) 2) transport and communication infrastructure 3) availability of labour When it come to the final choice of location, qualitative factors appear to be more important than quantitative (cost-related) factors, firms being prepared to trade off cost disadvantages to secure qualitative advantages such as a pleasant climate, attractive surroundings and a good general living environment.

Fuer die endgueltige Standortwahl scheinen die qualtitativen Faktoren staerker ins Gewicht zu fallen als die (kostengebundenen) quantitativen Faktoren, denn die Unternehmen sind bereit, fuer qualitative Vorteile wie angenehmes Klima, landschaftliche Schoenheit oder generell angenehme Lebensbedingungen gewisse Kostennachteile in Kauf zu nehmen.
