The Turkish Prime Minister declared the day after the Summit that membership of the European Union was, and I quote, a “birthright” for Turkey. This gives us an idea of the restraint which he is ready to show in pushing open the door to the European Union. Yet it is clear to all freethinking observers that the arrival of Turkey will profoundly alter the nature of the Union.
Bien que le Premier ministre turc ait déclaré au lendemain du Sommet que l’appartenance à l’Union européenne était, pour la Turquie, je cite : "un droit de naissance" - ce qui donne du reste une idée de la modestie avec laquelle il est prêt à pousser la porte de l’Union européenne - il est clair pour tous les observateurs qui conservent l’esprit libre que cette arrivée changerait profondément la nature de l’Union.
