L'objet du règlement (CE) n° 2819/98 (BCE/1998/16) est d'habiliter la BCE et, conformément à l'article 5.2 des statuts, les BCN - qui effectuent le travail dans la mesure du possible - à collecter les informations statistiques nécessaires à l'accomplissement des missions du SEBC, en particulier celle qui consiste à définir et à mettre en oeuvre la politique monétaire de la Communauté, conformément à l'article 105, paragraphe 2, premier alinéa, du traité instituant la Communauté européenne (le "traité").
