Pope John Paul II spoke of this some years ago at a UN forum, saying that the first type of systematic threat to human rights was linked to the area of the division of material goods, which was often unjust; that a second type of threat related to the various forms of injustice in the field of the spirit, and that it was possible to harm a person in their internal attitude to truth, in their conscience, in the sphere of what are called citizens’ rights, to which all are entitled without discrimination on grounds of their background, race, sex, nationality, religion or political convictions. In my opinion, his words should provide a signpost for the activities of the United Nations.
Le Pape Jean Paul II a déclaré il y a quelques années lors d'un forum de l'ONU que le premier type de menace systématique aux droits de l'homme était lié au domaine de la répartition des biens matériels, qui est souvent injuste; qu'un second type de menace provenait des différentes formes d'injustice dans les choses de l'esprit, et qu'il était possible de blesser une personne dans sa relation personnelle à la vérité, dans sa conscience, dans le domaine de ce que l'on appelle les droits des citoyens, auxquels tout le monde a droit sans discrimination fondée sur l'origine, la race, le sexe, la nationalité, les convictions religieuses ou politiques. D'après moi, ses paroles devraient servir à orienter les activités des Nations unies.
