In fact what happened was that the government on January 1 did nothing to fundamentally change those sections of the North American Free Trade Agreement that work against Canada but went forward with the agreement, sadly saying that Canada is prepared to join the race to the bottom in the North American continent, not to work more strongly for workers' rights, not to work to improve trade agreements that would be truly in the interests of all workers in all countries that are partners in those trade agreements.
Ce qui est arrivé, en fait, c'est que, le 1er janvier, le gouvernement n'a rien fait pour modifier fondamentalement les articles de l'Accord de libre-échange nord-américain qui font du tort au Canada, mais a finalement ratifié l'accord, reconnaissant malheureusement ainsi que le Canada est prêt à courrir à sa ruine plutôt que de défendre de façon plus acharnée les droits des travailleurs ou d'améliorer les accords commerciaux qui seraient vraiment dans l'intérêt de tous les travailleurs de tous les pays parties à ces accords.
