That clarification came from a recent Supreme Court of Canada decision called Cunningham where a Cunningham family on the Peavine Metis Settlement in Alberta had secured Indian status under the auspices of Bill C-31, and the Metis council at the settlement disallowed them.

Cette réponse nous a récemment été donnée par la Cour suprême du Canada, dans la cause Cunningham. La famille Cunningham, du Peavine Metis Settlement en Alberta, avait obtenu le statut d'Indien aux termes du projet de loi C-31, si bien que le Conseil métis de l'établissement avait privé de leurs droits les membres de la famille.
