In einer Rede vor der Agra Europa Konferenz über die Beziehungen zwischen der Europäischen Union und den Mittel- und Osteuropäischen Ländern im Bereich der Landwirtschaft sagte das für Landwirtschaft und ländliche Entwicklung zuständige Mitglied der Kommission, René Steichen, die Zukunft der europäischen Union hänge davon ab, daß es gelingt, die Mittel- und Osteuropäischen Länder in einen prosperierenden und stabilen gemeinsamen Kontext einzubinden, was für unsere unmittelbaren Nachbarn die mögliche Mitgliedschaft in der Union bedeute.
Resumé of Mr. STEICHEN's speech at the Agra Europe Conference in Budapest on 3 March 1994 Addressing a Conference in Budapest today on relations between the European Union and Central and Eastern European countries in the area of agriculture, the European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. René STEICHEN said that there can be no doubt that the future of the European Union depends on integrating Central and Eastern European countries into a prosperous and stable common context, which means for our nearest neighbours, possible membership to the Union.
