The AMR identifies the Member States for which further analysis (in the form of an in-depth review) is deemed necessary in order to decide whether an imbalance in need of policy action exists. In 2008 the Council adopted conclusions on AMR (9637/08) calling upon the Commission and member states to maintain and improve co-ordinated surveillance for antimicrobial resistance and consumption of antimicrobial agents and to increase public awareness as well as the awareness of veterinary and health care professionals about AMR, the prudent use of antibiotics in humans and animals and infection control practices.
