Within the last decade neurologists have grown to better understand the way in which the nervous system becomes damaged and how the symptoms are produced (See ref: Multiple Sclerosis, The Guide to Treatment and Management, published by the MSIF) The improvements in magnetic resonance techniques (in particular, brain scans) have also greatly contributed to the analysis and understanding of MS. However the cause of the disease is still not fully understood, although it is believed to result from a combination of genetic, environmental and immunological factors'.
