Besides reminding us of a dark chapter in our history, the 200 anniversary of the Abolition of the Transatlantic Slave Trade, during which an estimated 15 million people were forcibly removed from Africa, also highlights the fact that slavery and the slave trade had been practised all over the world and for thousands of years, albeit not on such a large scale as during those dark centuries of the transatlantic slave trade.
Der 200. Jahrestag der Abschaffung des transatlantischen Sklavenhandels, in dessen Verlauf schätzungsweise 15 Millionen Menschen mit Gewalt aus Afrika verschleppt wurden, mahnt uns nicht nur an ein dunkles Kapitel unserer Geschichte, sondern weist auch auf die Tatsache hin, dass Sklaverei und Sklavenhandel überall in der Welt und über Tausende von Jahren hinweg betrieben wurden, wenn auch nicht in dem gewaltigen Ausmaß wie in den finsteren Jahrhunderten des transatlantischen Sklavenhandels.
