We always uphold food sovereignty and we therefore think it is unacceptable that a country such as Portugal, with only one sugar factory in Coruche and one small factory in São Miguel, in the Azores, which scarcely managed to supply half the country’s consumption needs, should be confronted with the obligation to reduce its quota for sugar produced from sugar beet.
Wir haben uns stets für die Nahrungsmittelsouveränität eingesetzt und halten es deshalb für unannehmbar, dass ein Land wie Portugal mit lediglich einer einzigen Zuckerfabrik in Coruche und einer kleinen Fabrik in São Miguel auf den Azoren, die kaum die Hälfte des Konsumbedarfs des Landes decken, sich verpflichtet sieht, seine Quote für die Produktion von Zucker aus Zuckerrüben zu senken.
