In its explanatory memorandum the European Commission informs the Council and Parliament that the Kingdom of Spain has requested, on behalf of the authorities of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, the temporary suspension of the Common Customs tariff duties on certain industrial products into the Canary Islands so as to strengthen the competitive position of the local economic operators and stabilise employment in these outermost regions of the Union.
In ihrer Begründung teilt die Kommission dem Rat und dem Parlament mit, dass das Königreich Spanien im Namen der Behörden der Autonomen Gemeinschaft der Kanarischen Inseln um die zeitweise Aussetzung der Zollsätze des Gemeinsamen Zolltarifs im Falle der Einfuhren bestimmter gewerblicher Waren auf die Kanarischen Inseln ersucht hat, um die Wettbewerbsfähigkeit der lokalen Wirtschaftsbeteiligten zu stärken und damit die Beschäftigungssituation in diesen Gebieten in äußerster Randlage der Union zu stabilisieren.
