There are two important texts, the ‘Tomb of Pericles’ and the ‘Oath of Alexander the Great’; what a good idea it would be to have them translated into all the languages, including the new languages of the European Union, as statements of principles, values and civilisation.
Ein Wort noch an den griechischen Ratsvorsitz, denn wir alle sind der Auffassung, dass es gerade das kulturelle Element ist, das uns in Europa eint: es gibt zwei Texte von großer Bedeutung, den „Epitaphios des Perikles“ und den „Eid Alexanders des Großen“. Es wäre nützlich, wenn wir sie übersetzen würden, und zwar in alle Sprachen, auch in die neuen Sprachen der Europäischen Union, als Erklärungen, die unsere Prinzipien, unsere Werte und unsere Kultur zum Ausdruck bringen.
