In order to promote a 'highly competitive social market economy', the Commission has placed the social economy and social innovation at the heart of its concerns, in terms of both territorial cohesion and the search for new solutions to societal problems, in particular the fight against poverty and exclusion, under the Europe 2020 strategy,[1] the flagship initiative 'The Innovation Union',[2] the European Platform against Poverty and Social Exclusion[3] and the 'Single Market Act'[4] (SMA).
Um eine „in hohem Maße wettbewerbsfähige soziale Marktwirtschaft“ zu fördern, hat die Kommission in ihrer Strategie Europa 2020[1], der Leitinitiative „Innovationsunion“[2], in der europäischen Plattform gegen Armut und soziale Ausgrenzung[3] und in der Binnenmarktakte[4] die Sozialwirtschaft und die soziale Innovation sowohl im Hinblick auf den territorialen Zusammenhalt als auch im Rahmen der Suche nach originellen Lösungen für gesellschaftliche Probleme, insbesondere bei der Bekämpfung der Armut und der sozialen Ausgrenzung zu einem zentralen Anliegen gemacht.
