On 20 May 2008, Mohammed Barakeh, a member of the leadership of the Communist Party of Israel, President of Hadash and leader of the Hadash parliamentary party in the Israeli Parliament, was interrogated by the Israeli police on trumped up charges of allegedly assaulting a police officer during the demonstrations against the war in Lebanon in 2006.
