To this end, it is worthwhile exploring a number of paths with a view to adding value to and raising the profile of various themed European or multinational products, particularly at large-scale tourism fairs or exhibitions, or to encourage capitalising to a greater extent on major cultural and sporting events such as the European Capitals of Culture, European Heritage Days, the Olympic Games or universal exhibitions, which provide the potential for increased development of tourism in Europe.
Es bieten sich in diesem Zusammenhang mehrere, noch weiter auszulotende Handlungsoptionen an, um die verschiedenen thematischen Tourismusprodukte mit europäischer oder multinationaler Dimension insbesondere auf den wichtigsten Touristikmessen zu präsentieren und einen höheren Bekanntheitsgrad zu erzielen. Dazu gehört auch die gezieltere Aufwertung großer Kultur- und Sportveranstaltungen, beispielsweise die Initiative „Kulturhauptstädte Europas“, der „Europäische Tag des Denkmals“, die Olympischen Spiele oder die Weltausstellungen, die allesamt erfolgversprechende Ansatzpunkte für die Weiterentwicklung des Tourismus in Europa sind.
