6. The name, type, size, registration number and radio call sign of each vessel participating in the exploratory fishery shall be notified directly by Member States to the CCAMLR Secretariat, with a copy to the Commission, at least three months in advance of the date of the beginning of each fishing voyage.

The exploratory fishing voyages are part of the general restructuring of Member States' fishing fleets and are made to fishing zones where estimates of potential fishery resources indicate that stable and profitable exploitation seems possible in the long term.

4. Grant of financial aid to projects for exploratory fishing voyages within the framework of Regulation (EEC) No 4028/86 (Title V). Within the framework of Title V of Regulation (EEC) No 4028/86 of 18 December 1986 on Community measures to improve and adapt structures in the fisheries and aquaculture sector, the Commission granted in the course of 1989 financial aid totalling some ECU 9.12 million to 24 projects for exploratory fishing voyages.
