Given the understandable reluctance of the pharmaceutical industry to establish maximum residue limits (MRL's) for products used on horses, because of the low volumes required, and the current confusion with the application of the law and the urgent problems that this is causing for veterinarians and for the racing and sport horse industries throughout Europe, could the Commission please indicate how it proposes to ensure that the legislation reflects the need to protect the integrity of the food chain, while also allowing state-of-the-art veterinary medicines to be used on equines ...[+++], on welfare and economic grounds?
