Extension of the GSP to the East European countries Following the political upheaval in the former Eastern bloc countries (Poland, Hungary and then Czechoslovakia) at the end of 1989, it was decided that the problem with which these countries were temporarily confronted were of a similar nature to those facing the developing countries which were GSP beneficiaries.
