Thus it comes as no surprise that monitoring and control by the European "Assembly" (now officially "Parliament" since the adoption of the Single Act) was not a strong feature of the Euratom Treaty, although, ironically, it can be plausibly argued that it is precisely in these areas that the public most feels the need for rigorous democratic scrutiny, control and accountability.
Es überrascht somit nicht, daß die Überwachungs- und Kontrolltätigkeit der Europäischen "Versammlung" (seit der Annahme der Einheitlichen Akte offiziell "Parlament") kein prägendes Merkmal des Euratom-Vertrags war, auch wenn man witzigerweise durchaus dahingehend argumentieren kann, daß gerade auf diesen Gebieten die Öffentlichkeit es für dringend geboten hält, daß demokratische Prüfung, Kontrolle und Rechenschaftspflicht streng gehandhabt werden.
