On 16 February 2012, the Authority issued an opinion re-evaluating the saf
ety of carotenes as food additives and concluded that the use of (synthetic) beta-carotene and mixed beta-carotenes obtained from palm fruit oil, carrots
and algae as a food colour is not of a safety concern, provided the intake from this use as a food additive and as a food supplement is not more than the amount likely to be ingested from the regular consumption of the foods
in which they occur naturally ...[+++] (5-10 mg/day).
Am 16. Februar 2012 veröffentlichte die Behörde ein Gutachten zur Neubewertung der Sicherheit von Carotinen als Lebensmittelzusatzstoffe; sie gelangte darin zu dem Schluss, dass die Verwendung von (synthetischem) Beta-Carotin und von gemischten Beta-Carotinen, die aus Palmfruchtöl, Karotten und Algen gewonnen werden, als Lebensmittelfarbstoff unbedenklich ist, sofern die infolge dieser Verwendung als Lebensmittelzusatzstoff und als Nahrungsergänzungsmittel aufgenommene Menge nicht größer ist als die Menge, die beim regelmäßigen Verzehr von Lebensmitteln aufgenommen wird, in denen Carotine auf natürliche Weise vorkommen (5-10 mg/Tag).
