I recall a Papal bull from the beginning of the 10th century, which opens with the words: ‘Does the sun not shine equally on all?’ Despite the existence of this concept, Europe has very often endured times of brutal intolerance, which have led to millions of deaths and people’s destinies cut short, not to mention those who have not been physically destroyed but who have lived under circumstances of intolerance.
Ich möchte hier an eine päpstliche Bulle vom Anfang des 10. Jahrhunderts erinnern, die mit den Worten beginnt: „Scheint die Sonne nicht auf alle gleich?“ Trotz dieser Vorstellung hat Europa sehr oft Zeiten barbarischer Intoleranz durchgemacht, die Millionen den Tod gebracht und ein schweres Schicksal beschieden haben, ganz zu schweigen von denen, die zwar nicht physisch vernichtet wurden, aber in einem Klima der Intoleranz leben mussten.
