It was, of course, in 1994 that this House began the practice of hearings for those nominated to the Commission, and it was in 2004 at the latest that the public became aware of just how important the thorough examination of candidates for the office of Commissioner is, and above all of the fact that this House is not a governmental rubber-stamp.
Das Parlament führt ja seit 1994 eine Anhörung der designierten Kommissionsmitglieder durch. Wie bedeutsam eine eingehende Prüfung von Kandidaten und Kandidatinnen für das Amt eines Kommissionsmitglieds ist, wurde für die Öffentlichkeit spätestens im Jahr 2004 deutlich, vor allem die Tatsache, dass das Europäische Parlament eben keine Abnickmaschine der Regierung ist.
