But if we wish to have influence in the world still – whether as the EU, the Council of Europe or at any rate as a continent – then we must learn that it is essential for us to work together to determine the fate and thus the history of Europe, as there is no getting away from these geographic and demographic truths or their economic impact.
Und wenn wir gerne hätten – ob EU oder Europarat, jedenfalls europäischer Kontinent –, dass wir noch Einfluss in der Welt behalten, dann müssen wir lernen – weil diese geographischen und demographischen Tatsachen, die sind nicht auszuradieren, und die wirtschaftlichen Folgen, die sich daraus ergeben, auch nicht –, dann müssen wir lernen, dass wir europäische Geschicke und damit auch europäische Geschichte im Übrigen gemeinsam angehen müssen.
