I walked with around 20 000 people – lesbian, gay, heterosexual, bisexual, transgender – through the main streets of Warsaw, with extremist demonstrators being pushed away by the police to the margins where they belong, and with lots of heterosexual citizens – such as women with their dogs watching from buildings – greeting us and saying that we, as lesbians and gays, were at the centre of society, in the mainstream.
Dort ging ich mit rund 20 000 Menschen – Lesben, Schwulen, Heterosexuellen, Bisexuellen, Transgender – durch die Hauptstraßen Warschaus, während extremistische Demonstranten von der Polizei an den Rand gedrängt wurden, wo sie auch hingehören, und wir von vielen heterosexuellen Bürgerinnen und Bürgern, etwa von Frauen, die mit ihren Hunden von Häusern aus zusahen – begrüßt wurden, die meinten, wir, die Lesben und Schwulen befänden uns im Herzen der Gesellschaft, in ihrer Mitte.
