Die Regulierungsbehörden in der EU haben Zugang zu diesen Registern und können daher besser überblicken, wer welche Forderungen an wen hat, und potenzielle Probleme, wie etwa die Akkumulation von Risiken, frühzeitig erkennen. Vorerst ist die neu eingerichtete Europäische Wertpapier- und Börsenaufsichtsbehörde (ESMA) für die Beaufsichtigung der Transaktionsregister sowie für deren Eintragung und Löschung zuständig.
