Of course, there is no denying that some Regions - and even some local authorities - have more powers than others, especially in legislative terms. However, allowing this specific identity and role to find expression within the Committee of the Regions and in their relationship with the European decision-making and institutional system does not necessarily mean that they must form a separate and distinct group. This might in fact unintentionally cause the wider and more varied spectrum of regional and local authorities to be radically undermined.
Natürlich kann man nicht leugnen, dass es Regionen – aber auch lokale Gebietskörperschaften – gibt, die mit größeren Befugnissen, vor allem auf legislativer Ebene, ausgestattet sind: Doch damit ihr spezifisches Profil und ihre Rolle innerhalb des Ausschusses der Regionen und in den Beziehungen zum europäischen Beschlussfassungs- und Institutionensystem zum Ausdruck kommen, ist es nicht notwendig, eine eigenständige und getrennte Gruppierung vorzunehmen, auch weil dies zu einer unfreiwilligen radikalen Entwertung der ungeheuren Vielfalt der regionalen und lokalen Gebietskörperschaften führen würde.
