To do this, the
bank carried out a hiving-off operation: out of a total volume of loans outstanding of more than FF 100 billion in the property sector, FF 42 billion of doubtful claims, against which insufficient provisions had been made, were transferred to a company, OIG, specifically set up for the purpose. At the beginning of 1995 Crédit Lyonnais recorded a further loss of more than FF 10 billion for the 1994 financial year: the principal shareholder, the French Government, created a new rescue mechanism in the form of a
specific hiving-off structure designed ...[+++]to take over the non-performing or poorly performing assets of Crédit Lyonnais.
Dazu stößt die Bank im Immobiliensektor von insgesamt 100 Mrd. 42 Mrd. FF zweifelhalfter, unzureichend gedeckter Schuldforderungen ab und bringt sie in eine Ad-hoc-Gesellschaft ein. Anfang 1995 stellt der Crédit Lyonnais einen neuerlichen Verlust in Höhe von über 10 Mrd. FF für das Geschäftsjahr 1994 fest: der Hauptaktionär, der französische Staat, startet eine Rettungsaktion und gründet eine Ausgliederungsgesellschaft, die insbesondere die unrentablen oder wenig rentablen Aktiva des Crédit Lyonnais übernimmt.
