Commissioner Dimas tried – and rightly – to lay down binding targets for CO2 reduction, and at a level that the motor industry had voluntarily announced, only to see this proper attempt torpedoed by Germany, and not with the thought in its mind of doing something about climate change or the future of the motor industry, but simply and solely with the thought of protecting that small subdivision of it – the one concerned with the production of big luxury cars, a business that goes on in Germany, and so, suddenly, they care less about climate change and only about Porsche!
Der richtige Versuch von Umweltkommissar Dimas, verbindliche CO2-Reduktionsziele für die Automobilindustrie zu verankern, und zwar auf dem Niveau, das freiwillig von der Industrie angekündigt worden war, dieser richtige Ansatz wird von Deutschland torpediert, und zwar nicht mit dem Bewusstsein, hier geht es um Klimaschutz, nicht mit dem Bewusstsein, wie machen wir die Automobilindustrie zukunftsfähig, sondern allein unter dem Aspekt, wie schützen wir das kleine Segment der großen Luxuskarossen, die in Deutschland produziert werden. Da geht es also plötzlich nicht mehr um Klimaschutz, sondern nur noch um Porsche!
