To put it in a nutshell, six of them (with the exception of the Canary Islands) rank among the seven poorest regions in the European Union in terms of GDP per capita, and five of them run the highest unemployment rates, on average twice the EU level, and even not far short of three times if we exclude Madeira and the Azores, whose unemployment rates are around half the Community average.
Zusammenfassend läßt sich sagen, daß sechs dieser Regionen (die Kanarischen Inseln ausgenommen) nach dem Pro-Kopf-BIP zu den sieben ärmsten Regionen der Europäischen Union gehören. Fünf dieser Regionen weisen die höchsten Arbeitslosenquoten auf, im Durchschnitt doppelt so hoch wie in der Union insgesamt, bzw. sogar das Dreifache ohne Madeira und die Azoren, wo die Quote um die Hälfte des Gemeinschaftsdurchschnitts beträgt.
