The objective of this Directive is to reduce as far as possible the occurrence of major accidents relating to offshore oil and gas operations and to limit their consequences, thus increasing the protection of the marine environment and coastal economies against pollution, establishing minimum conditions for safe offshore exploration and exploitation of oil and gas and limiting possible disruptions to Union indigenous energy production, and to improve the response mechanisms in case of an accident.
Ziel dieser Richtlinie ist es, die Häufigkeit von schweren Unfällen im Zusammenhang mit Offshore-Erdöl- und -Erdgasaktivitäten so weit wie möglich zu verringern und ihre Folgen zu begrenzen, um den Schutz der Meeresumwelt und der Wirtschaft in Küstenregionen vor Umweltverschmutzung zu erhöhen, Mindestbedingungen für die sichere Offshore-Exploration und -Förderung von Erdöl und Erdgas festzulegen und mögliche Unterbrechungen der heimischen Energieproduktion in der Union zu verringern und gleichzeitig die Notfallmechanismen im Falle eines Unfalls zu verbessern.
