To close, I should like to say that we should not overlook the fact that today in European society there is a large percentage of citizens who are still in favour of the death penalty and, as such, we must also work in this direction, together with the European Commission, with programmes working through democratic consultation to convince European society.
Schließlich möchte ich sagen, dass wir nicht die Tatsache übersehen dürfen, dass es in der heutigen europäischen Gesellschaft eine große Anzahl von Bürgern gibt, die die Todesstrafe nach wie vor befürworten, und deshalb müssen wir auch in dieser Richtung gemeinsam mit der Europäischen Kommission aktiv werden, mit Programmen, die mithilfe der demokratischen Konsultation Überzeugungsarbeit in der europäischen Gesellschaft leisten.
