4. Notes that the reduction in sugar prices proposed by the Commission goes beyond the requirements for compliance with the WTO rules; therefore calls for this reduction to be limited to what is strictly necessary to achieve and maintain a sustainable, efficient, robust sugar production in the EU, in compliance with the WTO rules; considers that the reduction in quota must be governed by the same principle and that the accumulative effect of the reduction in prices and quotas calls into question the viability of the sector in both the most vulnerable and the most competitive regions;
4. stellt fest, dass die von der Kommission vorgeschlagene Senkung des Zuckerpreises über die notwendige Anpassung an die WTO-Regeln hinausgeht; fordert denn auch, dass die Kürzung nicht über das hinausgeht, was unbedingt notwendig ist, um in der EU eine nachhaltige, effiziente, dauerhafte und mit den WTO-Regeln übereinstimmende Zuckerproduktion zu erreichen und zu erhalten; ist der Auffassung, dass bei der Kürzung der Quoten ebenso zu verfahren ist und dass die Kumulierung der Preis- und Quotensenkungen die Existenzfähigkeit dieses Sektors berührt, was sowohl für die schwächsten als auch für die wettbewerbsfähigsten Regionen gilt;
