On 28 June 2005, the European Union and the other international partners, Japan, Russia, China, the United States and Korea, joined later by India, signed a 'Joint Declaration' agreeing on the realisation of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) at the European site of Cadarache.
