Undoubtedly merchants and exporters will benefit, but the development of products with intimate cultural links to their local area certainly will not; neither will the diversity and the very rich flavours of European wines, nor the consumer, who will soon be forced to swill concoctions that hardly deserve to be called wine, and certainly not the winegrowers who work hard, sometimes in difficult regions and on small areas, to maintain a high quality of wine and the pleasure of drinking it.
Ganz unbestreitbar kommen die Händler und Exporteure dabei auf ihre Kosten, gewiss aber nicht die Entwicklung von Erzeugnissen; die kulturell eng mit ihrem Anbaugebiet verbunden sind, gewiss nicht die Vielfalt und die Vielzahl der Aromen der europäischen Weine, gewiss nicht der Verbraucher, der künftig ein Gebräu schlucken muss, das kaum noch den Namen Wein verdient, und gewiss nicht die Winzer, die hart arbeiten, vielfach in schwierigen Regionen und auf kleinen Flächen, um ein hohes Niveau der Qualität des Weins und der Freude an seinem Genuss aufrechtzuerhalten.
